SMICL Drives Strategic Collaboration to Expand Global Opportunities for Ghanaian Seafarers

Safety Marine International Crewing Limited (SMICL) continues to strengthen its role in facilitating sustainable international employment for Ghanaian seafarers through its strategic collaboration with the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) and global shipowner Danaos Shipping.

As the official local representative of Danaos Shipping in Ghana, SMICL actively coordinated high-level engagements with the GMA, followed by a three-day recruitment exercise that assessed over 150 Ghanaian ratings for deployment across Danaos’ expanding global fleet. This initiative builds on the successful engagement of more than 220 Ghanaian seafarer ratings currently serving in essential deck and engine roles on Danaos vessels worldwide.

With nearly 20 new vessels under construction, Danaos Shipping has identified Ghana as a key source of skilled and reliable maritime manpower in West Africa. SMICL remains at the forefront of connecting Ghanaian seafarers with reputable international shipowners, ensuring transparent recruitment processes, regulatory compliance, and long-term career development.

Commenting on the collaboration, the Chief Executive Officer of SMICL commended the Ghana Maritime Authority for its responsiveness and efficiency in addressing seafarers’ documentation and operational needs, noting that the Authority’s prompt services continue to play a critical role in enabling timely deployments and supporting the growth of Ghanaian participation in global shipping.

This collaboration underscores SMICL’s ongoing commitment to advancing Ghana’s maritime workforce while working closely with regulators and principals to uphold international standards and best practices.
